In the European Union, the Radio Equipment Directive Delegated Act (RED DA) applies from August 2025. It prepares for the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which becomes active by the end of 2027.
These regulations apply to all consumer devices with connections to a network infrastructure.
It is therefore necessary to prepare accordingly. It is mandatory to fulfill these security requirements to allow your system to be labeled with the CE mark. The data must therefore be stored securely against all kinds of attacks. These include data theft, ransomware, over-the-air (OTA) attacks and supply chain risks.
Winbond offers special flash memory with extended security features that help you to implement the new requirements more easily.
In general, the TrustME memory family is divided into 3 series – the W77Q, W77T and the W75F series – the focus here is on the W77x series. Winbond is proud to be the first memory manufacturer to have already integrated support for post-quantum cryptography (PQC). The requirements of the new regulations are met and a new standard is set in the industry.
The W77Q/T series are NOR flash memories of the latest technology. They support asymmetric encryption algorithms and enable devices to protect secure OTA updates with asymmetric PQC signatures. These memory ICs are therefore ideal for applications in the areas of consumer & industrial IoT, networks, servers and critical infrastructures.
What makes a Secure Flash special? The difference between a “simple” standard NOR Flash and a Secure NOR Flash lies in the security mechanisms implemented by Winbond as digital logic. You can see a selection in the graphic on the right.

The W77Q series is based on the popular W25Q family SPI NOR Flash IC family and is therefore a 100% drop-in replacement. In addition to pin compatibility, the standard instruction set is also supported so that an existing application can be used directly.
The memory densities of the W77Q types range from 64Mb to 1Gb. (smaller 16Mb and 32Mb without PQC support). Single, dual and quad SPI as well as QPI operating modes with up to 133 MHz are supported (the larger ones up to 166 MHz). The W77T series is available for octal SPI and for even faster data transfer rates. The operating voltage in both series is usually 1.8V. 64Mb and 128Mb are also available for 3V systems. Options with an extended temperature range from -40°C to +105°C expand the standard types. Package options cover WLCSP, W/XSON, SOP and BGA.

Winbond has already considered possible future requirements during the development of the W77Q TrustME NOR Flash series.
When it comes to post-quantum cryptography, this series achieves CNSA 2.0 compliance for memory densities of 256 Mb and more.
W77Q components are ISO26262 ASIL-C ready and Winbond is working towards ISO 21434 compliance to meet automotive cybersecurity requirements.
