The manufacturer HopeRF, known for its radio components and modules for (almost) all frequency ranges, offers with the CMT4531 a SoC especially for Ultra Low Power Bluetooth LE applications. With the HM-BT4531 an extrem low cost Module based on this SoC is now available.
Not only the overall current consumption can be configured to be very low, but it was also ensured that no excessive peak currents occur. These are often a knock-out argument when using coin cells with their relatively high internal resistance, which also increases during use. Anyone who has ever inserted a watch battery instead of the appropriate cell in the car key knows a thing or two about this…
Typical applications for the CMT4531 are hereby:
The device contains a Cortex-M0 32-bit microcontroller, a RTC with calendar function including leap year compensation, an infrared transmit controller for all remote control protocols, Cyclic Redundancy Check hardware (CRC16 and CRC32), a fast ADC (10-bit@1.33 Msps) with differential input and PGA and much more.
The key facts of the HM-BT4531 follow the CMT4531 specification shown above. It comes with a small meachanical footprint of 17 mm x 12 mm x 2.6 mm and integrates an PCB antenna. Its dedicated use is together with an host connected via UART (baud rate: 9,6 kbps up to 500 kbps) to be controlled with AT commands. It supports LE 1M/2M PHY and LE Coded PHY according Bluetooth LE 5.2 protocol and Bluetooth Mesh. It is certified against CE (EU), FCC (USA), ISED (Canada), SRRC (China).
This makes it perfect for low cost applications with need for a local wireless link via Bluetooth LE. Because of its very low power consumption of 130nA in power down mode and 1.4µA in sleep mode with RAM retention makes ideal for battery powered devices or sensors. More details can be found in the datasheet and user manual for HM-BT4531.
