TPA8101 Isolated Delta-Sigma Modulator at a glance
The TPA8101 in WSOP8 housing offers insulation up to 5000Vrms according to UL1577. The wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C enables a wide range of applications. Certification in accordance with CQC GB 4943.1 has already been completed and VDE DIN VDE V 0884-17 (IEC60747-17) is currently in progress. A clearance and creepage of 8 mm is achieved in the WSOP8 housing.
The differential input was developed for connection to shunt resistors or small voltage signals. The sigma-delta modulator digitises the value into a 1-bit digital signal. The bit stream runs synchronously with the CLKIN signal (between 5 and 21 MHz) of the host processor on the isolated output side. The time-averaged value of this bit stream is proportional to the analogue input voltage.
Typical application – Motor Control
Isolated amplifiers are often used in inverters and are important components of industrial motor drives, servo controllers and other industrial applications. The TPA8101 is optimised for current measurement with shunt resistors.
The illustration on the left shows a typical application of the TPA8101 for current measurement of phase currents via the shunt resistors RSHUNT of a motor controller.
The differential input and the high common mode transient immunity (CMTI: 100kV/µs) of the IC ensure reliable and precise measurements even in environments with strong EMC interference.
The DC bus voltage can be measured e.g. with the isolated high impedance amplifier TPA8003.
