Intelligent Memory (IM) provides a wide range of NAND memories with various types of common interfaces, packages, wide operating temperature ranges and capacities. An eMMC (embedded MultiMediaCard) is a compact data storage device. It integrates a NAND Flash memory and a controller. The eMMC standard was established in 2006 by the JEDEC and the Multimedia Card Association, which later merged in 2008 to form a single entity.
Under the eMMC category, IM provides solutions that are well-suited for industrial and medical applications. Opting for IM’s solutions in your design offers several advantages including IM ability to customize solutions based on application assuring high performance and endurance.
Inside a standard eMMC package an advanced eMMC controller is integrated together with the NAND flash memory. This controller directly manages the NAND flash, implementing functions such as bad block management, error handling (ECC), static and dynamic wear-leveling, IOPS optimization, and read sensing. This controller also enables the host system to remain independent from the erasing and programming the flash memory.
The eMMC specification covers the behavior of the interface and the device controller. As part of this specification the existence of a host controller and a memory storage array are implied but the operation of these parts is not fully specified by the eMMC standard.
IM offers eMMC solutions in various capacity ranges, starting from 4GB and going up to 256GB, along with different temperature ranges and data retention span of up to even 10 years on 90% of available endurance.
