MicroASIC from ATLAS MAGNETICS – Configurable Mixed Signal Tiny Devices

MicroASIC von ATLAS MAGNETICS

The North American company ATLAS MAGNETICS, which specializes in the joint integration of passive and active components, is continuously expanding its portfolio of individually configurable mixed-signal chips, called µASIC.

In µASICs, configurable as well as prefabricated digital and analogue elements are combined to form extremely flexible functional units that can be customized to the respective application. Thus, in many cases, several discrete components can be replaced by one µASIC to save space and costs. No expensive tools or in-depth specialized knowledge are required, and there are no NRE costs!

Typical applications for µASIC from ATLAS MAGNETICS

Due to their flexibility in the almost free combination of the individual function blocks, the µASIC can be used in various applications, such as

  • Status-, temperature-, current- and voltage- (or battery-) monitoring
  • RESET, PWM, alarm- and signal- generators
  • Watchdog timers, power sequencers, simple sequence controller / state machines
  • Debounce filters, level shifters, LED controllers, IO expanders, decoders and encoders, multiplexers
  • parallel-serial converters, serial-parallel converters
  • keyboard controllers
  • plagiarism protection and much more.

MicroASIC von ATLAS MAGNETICS - AM1U1108 Features

The most important features of the µASICs at a glance:

  • Configurable logic (standardised macro cells, look-up tables…)
  • Standard digital components (oscillators, dividers, latches, shift registers, pattern generators…)
  • Standard interfaces (I2C, digital push-pull and open-drain outputs, inputs with and without Schmitt trigger, pull-up/pull-down, analogue outputs…)
  • Analogue components (comparators, current sources, voltage references, POR, temp. sensors, …)
  • Immediately available, short response times in the nanosecond range thanks to asynchronous design
  • High operational reliability thanks to configured hardware (as opposed to software solutions), CRC-8 and CRV (Continuous Register Verification)
  • Rebuild protection through customised configuration and order number ex works
  • Space-saving designs (e.g. 20 pin @ 2×3 mm)
  • Low power: quiescent current = 500nA
  • Very cost-efficient compared to discrete implementation of the functions
  • No NRE costs, free design software atlas EDA, low-cost Eva kit

The internal pull-up/pull-down resistors can be selected to 10K, 100K or 1M Ohm; output currents up to 50mA are possible. For the design phase, it is possible to use the evaluation environment to temporarily load the configuration into RAM registers for validation or to program the OTP registers for building prototypes by yourself. When it comes to series production, you or your authorized contracting partners can obtain OTP-programmed & tested ICs in the factory via your exclusive part number.
