The Electric Compass is a high sensitivity digital compass IC for measuring terrestrial magnetism in the X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis. It combines magnetic sensors for detecting terrestrial magnetism, a sensor driving circuit, low noise amplifier, high resolution ADC for each channel and control circuit for low power computation.
The Electric Compass supports for low power mode in addition to normal mode to extend battery life. The built-in temperature sensor can compensate for offset drift caused by non-linear ADC characteristics for each temperature. With small footprint and low power consumption, the Electric Compass is suitable for mobile phones and mobile GPS systems.
Key Features:
Applications:
Advanced Fusion Algorithm
Haechitech provides unique algorithm called Advanced Fusion Algorithm. MAFA processes multiple sensor outputs from e-compass, accelerometer and gyroscope concurrently. MAFA then generates several types of angle information such as Euler angle, quaternion and Euler vector. MAFA enables users to find more accurate offset in e-compass(magnetometer), which is crucial for many application.
Pseudo Gyroscope
Angular rate, an output of the gyroscope sensor, can be calculated through the “Pseudo Gyroscope” solution using e-compass and accelerometer. Pseudo Gyroscope offers many benefits in power consumption and cost reduction by eliminating a gyroscope. Pseudo Gyroscope can be a reasonable alternative to pricey actual gyroscopes.
Advanced Calibration
Calibration for finding offset is critical to get best performance. Typically, “8-Figure Motion” has been used for e-compass calibration, however this motion is unnatural. Haechitech algorithm for Advanced Calibration supports simpler calibration motions such as, “Circular Motion with Tilt” or “Natural Hand (back-and-forth) Motion.”
